Ltd. The present line was opened on 21 January 1937 as the part of the Sariwon–Changyŏn railway.〔朝鮮總督府官報 (The Public Journal of the Governor-General of Korea), Showa Nr. 3009, 28 January 1937〕 The line was nationalized on 1 April 1944 like the other lines of Hwanghae Line and labeled as the present name.〔朝鮮總督府官報 (The Public Journal of the Governor-General of Korea), Showa Nr. 5143, 29 March 1944〕 After the establishment of the government of North Korea the Changyŏn Line was separated from the Sariwon–Sugyo railway.
